How to write a Sales Development Representative resume

Lead with pipeline ownership

Put your current SDR title, dates, and the type of customer or territory you cover near the top of the experience section. In each role, show the path from accounts researched to contacts reached to qualified meetings or accepted opportunities. Include the period measured and your target when you know it, so a monthly result is easy to interpret.

Make activity numbers useful

Use outreach volume alongside outcomes: calls or accounts worked, meetings booked, and the share accepted by account executives. Add a clear timeframe and explain what changed, such as testing a new subject line or narrowing an account list. Avoid presenting a large call count alone as an accomplishment, and do not claim revenue that you did not own.

Name tools you have used

List CRM and sales engagement tools such as Salesforce, Salesloft, or Outreach when you have hands-on experience with them. Mention LinkedIn Sales Navigator or a specific qualification approach only if you used it in your workflow. Keep tools in a compact skills or tools section and show their purpose in achievement bullets instead of repeating a long software list.

Keep credentials relevant

SDR jobs in the United States generally do not require a professional license or a standard industry certification. Include relevant sales training only when it is completed and recognizable, with the provider and date if useful. A portfolio is optional; if you share one, use sanitized sample messaging and never include prospect names, private call recordings, or confidential company material.

Questions about this role

How long should an SDR resume be?

For an early-career SDR, one page is usually enough to show recent roles, measurable outreach results, education, and relevant tools. Keep older or unrelated work brief unless it demonstrates prospecting, quota ownership, or customer-facing experience. If you have several years of sales work or meaningful leadership responsibilities, a second page can make sense when each section adds relevant evidence.

Should I include calls and emails per day?

Include activity metrics when they help explain your results, and give the timeframe and context. Pair calls, emails, or accounts worked with outcomes such as qualified meetings, accepted opportunities, or reply rates. Employers use different targets and definitions, so avoid presenting a raw activity count as a universal benchmark or comparing it without explaining the audience and sales cycle.

Do SDRs need certifications or a license?

Most SDR positions in the United States do not require a professional license, and there is no single sales certification required across employers. List completed sales training if it is relevant to the role, and name the provider accurately. Requirements can vary by employer and product area, so follow the specific job posting and do not imply a course is a license.

How can I move into an SDR role without sales experience?

Show evidence of relevant work such as customer support, fundraising, recruiting, retail sales, or research that involved initiating conversations, asking questions, and following up. Use truthful numbers where available, then connect those examples to prospect research, outreach, and qualification. You can also include a short, clearly labeled sample email sequence, but avoid presenting practice work as experience with real prospects.
