How the resume check works

The check scores five parts of a resume out of 100. It looks for things recruiters and applicant tracking systems need to find; it does not imitate any particular system.

Contact (20 points)

Five points each for a name, a job title, a valid email address and a phone number.

Summary (20 points)

Twenty points for a summary of at least 20 words, ten for a shorter one.

Experience (30 points)

Fifteen points for describing your experience, and fifteen more when it includes at least one number, such as a percentage or an amount, to show results.

Skills (20 points)

Twenty points for at least five skills separated by commas, ten for fewer.

Education (10 points)

Ten points for an education or qualifications section.

What the score cannot tell you

It does not read your writing, compare your resume with a job advert or know what a particular employer wants. A full score means the resume is complete, not that it will be shortlisted.
