How to write a Supply Chain Director resume

Lead with operating scope

Put your current director role, years in supply chain, and operating scope near the top. State the size of the network you oversee: sites, regions, product lines, annual spend, or team size. That context helps employers judge the scale of your decisions. Keep the summary focused on your scope and strongest functions, such as sourcing, planning, distribution, or manufacturing.

Show cost and service together

Choose achievements that connect a decision to an operating result. For example, explain how a carrier bid, inventory policy, or planning cadence changed freight expense, working capital, forecast accuracy, or delivery performance. Include the time period and baseline where available. Use numbers you can explain in an interview, and avoid claiming savings without clarifying whether they were annual, one-time, or validated.

Name systems and credentials

List the ERP, planning, warehouse, and analytics tools you have actually used, and describe the business work they supported. If you hold ASCM CSCP or another relevant credential, give its full name and issuing body in a separate section. Supply chain director roles do not have one universal license requirement, so do not imply a certification is mandatory unless the specific job posting says so.

Keep details relevant

Use a concise, reverse-chronological resume, usually one or two pages depending on your career history and the employer's expectations. Give recent director-level work the most space; compress older roles to their strongest leadership and operating outcomes. Leave out routine task lists, confidential supplier terms, and unsupported savings claims. Include a portfolio only if it can safely show nonconfidential process or transformation work.

Questions about this role

How long should a Supply Chain Director resume be?

One or two pages can work in the United States. Use two pages when needed to show director-level scope, major results, and relevant earlier progression without shrinking the type or crowding the page. Keep the most detail on recent leadership roles, and summarize older positions. Follow any length or format instructions in the employer's application.

Which metrics belong on a supply chain director resume?

Use metrics tied to your remit, such as annual spend, inventory value, working capital, forecast accuracy, freight cost, supplier performance, order cycle time, on-time delivery, site count, or team size. Include a baseline and time period when possible. Make clear whether savings were recurring or one-time, and avoid sharing confidential figures if your employer restricts disclosure.

Do supply chain directors need a certification?

There is no single certification required for every U.S. supply chain director role. Some employers value credentials such as ASCM CSCP or CPIM, but requirements vary by company and industry. List credentials you actually hold with their correct names and issuing bodies. Do not present a course, exam in progress, or expired credential as an active certification.

Should I list ERP and planning software by name?

Yes, when the tools are relevant to the posting and you have used them. Name systems such as SAP S/4HANA or other ERP, planning, warehouse, and analytics platforms, then show the work you did with them—for example, a planning rollout or inventory policy change. Avoid listing tools you only encountered briefly or cannot discuss in an interview.
