How to write a K-12 STEM Educator resume

Lead with grades and subjects

Put your current teaching title, grade band, and STEM subjects near the top so a principal can see your fit quickly. Name the courses or units you have taught, such as middle school life science, robotics, or engineering design. If your experience spans different grades, identify each range clearly instead of relying on a broad K–12 label.

Show learning with evidence

Describe a specific unit or lab, the instructional approach, and what changed for students. Use assessment results, project rubric proficiency, class size, or time saved when you have reliable figures. Explain the comparison period or group so the number has context. Avoid claiming student gains you cannot support with classroom records or school-approved data.

Make licensure easy to verify

List your active state teaching license and relevant endorsements with their exact names, state, and status; requirements and license names vary by state. Put them in a clear Licenses & Certifications section, and include an expiration date only if it helps clarify current status. Add STEM training or educator credentials that match the posting, and leave out expired or unrelated certificates.

Name tools in context

Include platforms and equipment you have actually used, such as robotics kits, coding environments, learning management systems, or lab tools. Pair each with the activity or age group when that adds useful context. A short project portfolio can help for maker, robotics, or curriculum-design roles; share only school-approved, student-privacy-safe examples, and omit student names or identifiable work.

Questions about this role

How long should a K-12 STEM educator resume be?

One page is usually enough for an early-career teacher, while two pages can work when you have several years of relevant teaching, leadership, or curriculum experience. Prioritize the grade bands, subjects, standards, and student learning evidence that match the job. Trim unrelated work and repeated duties before reducing the font or margins.

Should I list my teaching license and endorsement?

Yes. State the exact license or certificate name, issuing state, and relevant subject or grade endorsement, if applicable. License structures, endorsement names, and renewal rules differ by state, so use the wording shown by your state education agency and confirm the credential is current. Do not include a license number unless the employer specifically requests it.

Can I move into STEM teaching from another field?

Show the teaching qualification or alternative-route credential required for the roles you are targeting; pathways and eligibility vary by state and district. Connect prior STEM work to instruction with examples of explaining technical ideas, mentoring learners, or designing hands-on activities. Include student teaching, tutoring, or volunteer STEM instruction, and be clear about the grade levels you have taught.

Which STEM projects should I include?

Choose one or two projects that demonstrate the role’s core work, such as an engineering challenge, robotics unit, or cross-curricular investigation. Briefly name the grade band, learning goal, your contribution, and how students were assessed. A portfolio link is optional and most useful for curriculum, maker, or instructional-design roles; remove student names, faces, and other identifying information unless you have permission.
