Put customer work first
Lead with the tasks closest to the vacancy: greeting customers, answering product questions, using the till and keeping shelves stocked. Use a short summary only if it adds useful context. If you have helped customers through family work, a community stall or occasional selling, describe what you actually did and when.
Give clear examples of accuracy
Mention the POS system or payment methods you have used if you know them, along with returns, exchanges or register closing when relevant. Add a modest measure only when you can support it, such as customers helped per shift or stock replenished. Leave out claims like zero errors unless you can explain how you tracked them.
List tools and training honestly
Name equipment you have used, such as a handheld stock scanner, and any relevant training, such as customer service or first aid. Retail roles often train staff on the job, so do not imply that a certificate is required. Do not list systems or certificates you have not used or completed.
Explain short or informal work
Part-time, seasonal and short jobs can show useful experience. Give honest dates and label seasonal or temporary work where that clarifies the role. Include informal selling, helping at a family shop or volunteering if you handled customers or stock. Keep unrelated detail and duties you did not perform out of the resume.
