Summary

Data architect with 8 years of experience building analytics platforms for B2B distribution and financial operations. Strengths include cloud warehouse and lakehouse design, dimensional modeling, and governance controls; translates reporting and access requirements into documented data products used by finance, operations, and analytics teams.

Experience

Lead Data Architect at Juniper Mesa Analytics, Denver, CO (2022 – Present) - Designed a Databricks lakehouse using layered data models and automated quality checks, bringing 18 source feeds into a shared platform and reducing reporting refresh time from 9 hours to 2. - Established governance rules for 60 critical datasets with business owners and role-based access controls, cutting recurring access requests by about one-third. - Modeled finance and operations data marts with dbt and Snowflake, shortening monthly close reporting preparation from 3 days to 2. Data Architect at Northpeak Outdoor Supply, Boulder, CO (2018 – 2022) - Consolidated 14 AWS Redshift data marts into 6 subject-area models, using dimensional design and SQL validation to reduce duplicate metric definitions across reporting teams. - Built a master data matching process for product and supplier records, resolving about 4,000 duplicate or incomplete records before quarterly planning cycles.

How to write a Data Architect resume

Lead with platform scope

Put your current architecture role first and make its scale easy to understand: cloud platforms, major source systems, data domains, and the teams served. Show whether you owned target-state design, standards, or implementation decisions. Keep the opening summary focused on architecture strengths that match the posting, such as warehouse modernization, lakehouse design, governance, or master data management.

Show the operating impact

Tie each architecture decision to a business or engineering outcome. Useful measures include refresh time, number of source systems consolidated, duplicate records resolved, reporting cycle time, or datasets brought under ownership and access rules. Explain the method briefly, such as dimensional modeling, automated quality checks, or role-based access. Use modest, supportable numbers and clarify the period or scope when needed.

Make tools and ownership clear

Name the platforms you actually designed or implemented, including Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, dbt, or SQL where relevant. Separate hands-on delivery from oversight: say whether you built models, reviewed designs, set standards, or coordinated adoption. Include governance responsibilities such as dataset ownership, lineage, access controls, and data quality only when you can describe how you applied them.

Keep architecture detail selective

Use a short platform or architecture section for tools and methods that are not already clear from your experience bullets. Keep detailed diagrams, code samples, and longer case studies in a portfolio link only if they are shareable and do not expose confidential architecture or data. Leave out generic technology lists, unsupported claims about scale, and implementation details that do not connect to a business need.

Questions about this role

How long should a Data Architect resume be?

For an experienced Data Architect, two pages is often a practical target because the work spans platforms, governance, and business outcomes. Use the space for recent architecture ownership and measurable results; compress older or less relevant roles. A one-page resume can work for a shorter career, while a longer record may justify more space if each section supports the target role.

Should I include certifications on my Data Architect resume?

Include current, relevant certifications that you have earned, with the exact credential name and issuer. Cloud or platform certifications can help clarify specific expertise, but they do not replace evidence of architecture work. Check each issuer's current credential name and status before listing it, and omit expired or planned certifications unless clearly marked as in progress.

How do I move into Data Architecture from data engineering?

Show the architecture decisions already present in your engineering work: model standards, platform choices, governance, integrations, and tradeoffs you helped define. Include examples where you aligned data structures with reporting or operational needs and explain your scope accurately. If you have not held an architect title, keep your actual title and make the architecture responsibilities clear in the bullets.

Should I link to architecture diagrams or code?

A portfolio link can help when the material is yours, understandable without confidential context, and relevant to the role. Redact client, employer, and security-sensitive details; never publish proprietary schemas, credentials, or internal system diagrams. A concise case study explaining the problem, design choices, tradeoffs, and outcome can be more useful than a collection of unannotated diagrams.
